What Mudjacking Is, and Why Epp Uses Polyurethane Foam Instead.

Cured cementitious slurry is a permanent fill material and can hold for many years when installed correctly. Epp Foundation Repair does not install or warranty mudjacking, so we cannot speak to any specific contractor's warranty terms. Our polyurethane foam injection carries a 5-year written warranty against re-settlement at the treated area, backed by Epp.

The void underneath enlarges over time. Soil continues to wash, consolidate, or shrink, and the slab continues to drop. The tripping edge gets steeper, drainage runs the wrong direction, and adjacent slab sections start cracking from the lateral pull. The longer a settled slab waits, the more often the eventual answer shifts from lifting to full replacement, at three to four times the lift cost. Epp's on-site inspection identifies whether a slab still qualifies as a lift candidate.

Epp Foundation Repair uses polyurethane foam on every lifting job, never mudjacking. Properly mixed slurry cures into a solid cementitious column. At that point it is no longer a slurry, it is effectively a thin concrete pad bonded to the underside of the slab. Settlement after any cured lift, mudjacking included, almost always traces back to an underlying soil issue that was never addressed: a downspout still dumping at the foundation, irrigation still saturating the same zone, or grading still pitched the wrong way. That is true of any lift method, not just mudjacking, which is why Epp's inspections always check for the water source before quoting a repair.

Mudjacking's patched holes are visible up close. They run roughly the diameter of a quarter and are patched with concrete grout. On a finished driveway or sidewalk they read as small repair spots, not a major visual scar, but polyurethane foam ports (5/8 inch) are less visible by a meaningful margin because they are smaller. For homeowners where visual appearance is a priority, a stamped concrete patio, a colored driveway, a decorative pool deck, foam injection is the method Epp recommends, since Epp does not perform mudjacking.
