Adding a vapor barrier so the drain tile, vapor barrier, and sump pump form a complete system moves coverage to the lifetime of the structure. The sump pump itself carries the manufacturer's warranty only; pumps typically last 7 to 12 years in eastern Nebraska groundwater conditions, so plan on one to two pump replacements over the warranty life of the system.

Water keeps arriving at the cove joint every rain and snowmelt. The cove joint widens as freeze-thaw cycles push water deeper into the seam. Interior drainage costs meaningfully less than exterior waterproofing in NE/IA conditions and works equally well in most basements. Exterior waterproofing requires excavating 8 feet down to the footing around the entire perimeter. Which destroys landscaping, threatens close neighbors' yards on small lots, and risks brick or stone veneer pulling away from the wall above grade. Interior drainage stays inside the basement, completes in 2 to 3 days, and routes water out without touching the exterior. That work belongs to a finish carpenter, drywall contractor, or flooring installer.
