How it works

Commercial Carbon Fiber: how it works and when it's the right call.

Commercial carbon fiber reinforcement stabilizes a basement or below grade wall that is bowing inward from soil pressure. Carbon fiber straps are installed on the inside of the wall to stabilize it against further inward movement. The work is done from inside the building, with no excavation outside. Carbon fiber stabilizes a wall. It does not straighten the wall or recover movement that has already happened. It fits walls where the masonry can still be salvaged and the bow is limited, and Epp's warranty covers walls bowed up to 3 inches. A wall that has moved more than that, or that is also settling, may need a different repair, such as wall anchors, steel I beam braces, or piers. On commercial projects, the system is sized to the engineer's specification, and submittals are available on request.

Installation Process

How we install commercial carbon fiber.

Step 01.Wall Inspection

Epp measures the bow in each wall and checks for settlement or water problems that a wall repair alone would not fix.

Step 02.Submittal and Review

For engineered projects, a submittal with strap spacing, anchor detail, surface preparation, and warranty terms goes to the engineer for review.

Step 03.Installation

Straps are installed along the inside of each wall, corner to corner, as the warranty requires, with no excavation outside the building.

Step 04.Closeout

As built records, and warranty paperwork where it applies, are delivered with the final invoice.

"I've seen homeowners get sold sixteen straps on a wall that needed four piers first. If the footing is settling, no amount of carbon fiber will save you. Diagnose the cause before you treat the symptom."
