Polyurethane Foam Injection: how it works and when it's the right call.
Epp Foundation Repair drills injection ports through the slab, typically about 5/8 of an inch across, spaced to match the pattern of settlement. A two-part polyurethane is pumped through those ports and mixed at the point of injection. The components react and expand quickly, filling the void beneath the slab first and, where the void profile calls for it, continuing to fill mid-soil rather than stopping at the surface. As the foam expands it generates lift, and a technician monitors the slab's elevation with a laser level throughout the process rather than estimating by eye. Injection moves between ports in a sequence set by the settlement pattern, so the slab rises evenly instead of tilting or overstressing one section. Once the target elevation is reached, injection stops, the ports are patched with a compound matched to the surrounding concrete, and the area is cleaned. The foam itself cures quickly, which is why a driveway, sidewalk, or patio lifted with PolyLift concrete leveling is typically ready for foot and vehicle traffic again the same day, without the extended drying and hardening period a heavier fill material would require. Polyurethane foam injection is the right fit when the slab itself is structurally sound and the problem is lost support underneath it. Step 01.Inspection and void assessment
Epp Foundation Repair measures the settlement across the slab, checks for hollow spots, and identifies where water has likely been entering. The crew confirms the concrete itself is sound enough to lift and gets a read on how deep the void beneath it runs before any port is drilled.
Step 02.Port drilling
Small injection ports, typically about 5/8 of an inch, are drilled through the slab in a pattern set by the settlement and the suspected void shape.
Step 03.Foam injection with laser-monitored lift
The two-part polyurethane is injected through each port in sequence. A laser level tracks the slab's elevation in real time so the lift stays even, and injection stops the moment the target elevation is reached at that port.
Step 04.Patch and same-day use
Ports are patched with a color-matched compound, the area is cleaned, and the slab is typically ready for foot and vehicle traffic the same day.
